Spookie Daly Pride -- Medicine Chest

Now, I have to admit that sometimes I have a vague idea of what to expect when I listen to a disc. Sometimes I don't. It can be a complete crap shoot. If you've never shot a crap, try it and you'll have some idea what I'm talking about.
Medicine Chest is a disc that I thought was going to be fun, humorous and upbeat. Why? Well, the write up from Funzalo records (yes, that's their name, kids!) screams in all caps "THE MOST FUN YOU WILL HAVE WITH YOUR CLOTHES ON!!)
Was it? Well, not exactly. I didn't pop a chub, I didn't laugh, I didn't peek out the window to see if there was anyone I could share this with. Fun? Yeah. I suppose. I've had more fun with my clothes on, I'll tell you that!
These guys actually aren't bad, with a sound you'd probably hear at the local live music bar. They sing about some fairly adult topics. One track sings to us about the joy of "bumping uglies". Another tells us of the "Boogity Man" and how he was messin' with someone's girl. There is a nice little remake of Little Red Riding hood on here, but the highlight for me was the final track "You've been gone for so long gone". It stood out for a number of reasons, all of which are good.
The biggest downfall are the repetitive choruses. I don't know how long these guys have been writing songs, but I would challenge them to reduce those a bit. They make a great song good and a good song bearable. That ain't good.
I must be in a stingy mood. It probably deserves a B, but I gave it a B-.
